Registering a food business in Queensland
Under the Food Act 2006 (Qld), a person must not carry on a licensable food business unless they hold a licence. The licence is issued by the local government, and the licensee must display the licence, or a copy, in a prominent position at the premises where people can easily see it. Keep the licence with your other documents.
Food safety supervisor
The Food Act 2006 (Qld) says a licensee must have a food safety supervisor within 30 days after the licence is issued, and at all times after that. The supervisor must be reasonably available to be contacted by the local government that issued the licence. Queensland Health says the licensee notifies that local government of the supervisor's name and contact details within 30 days of a new licence, and within 14 days of a change.
Food safety programs
The Food Act 2006 (Qld) says a licensee must have an accredited food safety program in cases such as catering away from the premises, a business whose main activity is catering at the premises, a private hospital, or a business prescribed by regulation. Ask your council whether any of these applies to you.
Records Hospitality Shield keeps
Standard 3.2.2A is a national standard. It can ask a venue in Queensland for a trained food safety supervisor, trained food handlers and records of key activities. Hospitality Shield keeps those records with checklists and temperature logs, training certificates and documents, and prints them as a record pack for any dates.
Hospitality Shield lists the registration and supervisor documents for your own state. We have researched Western Australia in the most depth, so confirm any duty that is particular to your state with the regulator named below.
