Registering a food business in Tasmania

The Tasmanian Department of Health says an Environmental Health Officer at your local council will tell you whether your business must appoint a food safety supervisor. Ask your council what else applies to your food business, and keep what it gives you with your other documents.

Food safety supervisor

The Tasmanian Department of Health says certain food services, caterers and retail businesses must appoint at least one food safety supervisor. It applies to food that is unpackaged, potentially hazardous, ready to eat and sold for immediate consumption. The supervisor must have completed training with a registered training organisation in the last 5 years, and should keep a copy of the certificate at the premises to show a council officer. Council officers check this during routine inspections.

Records Hospitality Shield keeps

Standard 3.2.2A is a national standard. It can ask a venue in Tasmania for a trained food safety supervisor, trained food handlers and records of key activities. Hospitality Shield keeps those records with checklists and temperature logs, training certificates and documents, and prints them as a record pack for any dates.

Hospitality Shield lists the registration and supervisor documents for your own state. We have researched Western Australia in the most depth, so confirm any duty that is particular to your state with the regulator named below.
